Oralift Facial Rejuvenation

Oralift Facial Rejuvenation is a natural, non-invasive way to address the signs of facial ageing as opposed to Botox, derma fillers and cosmetic facial surgery which are invasive and tend to leave patients with an expressionless, unnatural face. Patients who have been using the Oralift device have reported quite breathtaking results including reduced jowls, lines, eye bags and pores, a plumped, even complexion, more prominent cheekbones, fuller lips and more volumised hair – while maintaining natural facial movement without bruising or pain. We are currently the only surgery in the South-East able to offer this exiting treatment.

The Oralift appliance works by using the bodies healing capacity and its ability to adapt to changes. When we relax the muscles of the face, we usually keep the lips together and the teeth slightly apart. The little space between the upper and lower teeth is called the “free way space” and is usually 1-3mm in size. At this relaxed position or resting position there is a minimal amount of electrical activity occurring in the facial muscles to maintain muscle tone.

When you wear the Oralift appliance it separates the teeth by an amount much greater than your original “free way space”. The muscles now adapt by altering their fibres to create a new resting length and a new “free way space”. The more relaxed the facial muscles, the bigger the free way space and can result in the freeway space increasing to 5-10mm.

This process involves greater protein activity for which muscles need more oxygen. To achieve this, any capillaries which have been damaged due to ageing need to be repaired. The muscles release a growth factor (Mechano Growth Factor) which triggers off the bodies healing process. This healing process counteracts the effects of ageing.

This is very similar to when we do exercise but this process is done passively and is therefore called a passive exercise. The Oralift anti-ageing device is designed to fit over your lower back teeth and looks similar to a small mouth guard. You wear it for just 2 hours, every third day. There is no exercise program as your facial muscles are activated by just having it in your mouth. Please note this treatment is non-invasive: the teeth are not altered in any way, no crowns/inlays or bridge are needed to achieve the results. As all patients respond differently though, it is impossible to predict precisely how much rejuvenation can be achieved.

It is important use your Oralift exactly as prescribed and NOT more. Excessive wearing of the device, over and above the prescribed usage actually reverses some of the effects so stick to the protocol as outlined when the Oralift was fitted. Remember, it only needs to be worn 2 hours every third day. Do not eat with the appliance in and it is advisable to brush and floss your teeth well before using it as it will keep your Oralift in better condition when you do. All the Oralift appliances apart from the Oralift Permanent should only be cleaned with cold water.

When wearing the Oralift do not clench or grind your teeth. Your upper molars should not touch the appliance yet your lips should be together in a resting position. This will also prevent the lips from getting dry. When you first have your Oralift appliances made you may find that it is easier to speak with the teeth and Oralift appliance held together. Make sure you do not develop this habit.

The teeth should not touch when you are swallowing. Clenching your teeth when swallowing can cause muscular problems. The swallowing pattern should involve putting the tip of the tongue behind the two upper front teeth while keeping the lips together and the teeth apart.
